Astrophotographer Captures Skydiver 'Falling Past Sun' in Stunning Photo! (2025)

Prepare to be amazed as we delve into a mind-bending cosmic encounter! A skydiver's descent, captured against the backdrop of the Sun, has left the internet in awe and disbelief.

Renowned astrophotographer Andrew McCarthy, known for his dramatic solar imagery, has created an otherworldly illusion. On a crisp November morning, he framed a skydiver's fall against the fiery disc of the Sun, resulting in a scene straight out of a sci-fi movie. But here's where it gets controversial... McCarthy claims this shot, titled "The Fall of Icarus," might be the first of its kind, requiring an "absolutely preposterous" level of planning.

The skydiver, YouTuber and musician Gabriel C. Brown, leaped from an aircraft at 3,500 feet, positioning himself perfectly for McCarthy's camera, which was 8,000 feet away. Brown's excitement is palpable in the behind-the-scenes footage he shared on Instagram, celebrating this once-in-a-lifetime capture.

However, achieving this alignment wasn't a walk in the park. Despite meticulous planning, McCarthy and his team had to attempt the aircraft-to-Sun alignment six times. The narrow field of view and the unpredictability of the plane made it a challenging feat. McCarthy admitted, "Capturing the Sun is familiar, but this added new dimensions to the challenge."

And this is the part most people miss: the image was captured on the first and only jump of the day! With the parachute repacking process being too time-consuming for multiple attempts, they had to get it right the first time.

Despite the hurdles, McCarthy considers this image among his personal best, easily ranking in his "top 5" of all time. He has a portfolio of jaw-dropping moments, including the ISS photobombing a solar flare, a SpaceX rocket slicing across the Sun, and even Mars eclipsed by the Moon.

So, is this cosmic illusion a masterpiece or a controversial claim? What do you think? Share your thoughts in the comments and let's discuss!
